Work Scope

Construction of approximately 8.2 miles of 24” O.D. pipeline starting at Salter St. station in Norfolk, VA and continuing south to the new South Gate master station in Chesapeake, VA. This project included construction of a new master gate station in Chesapeake, Va. The station will manage three separate pipeline suppliers providing gas service into the VNG distribution system. Inlet system MAOPs will range between 600 psig to 1440 psig, with outlet pressure systems of 150 psig and 300 psig.

The project consisted of approximately 2 acres of clearing and site work including station access road, drainage and BMP. Site prep included concrete foundations for large equipment (three heaters and a filter/separator), and pier supports for meter and regulator skids. Mechanical work includes skids for flow control, metering, and four separate regulator runs. Large equipment installation includes three heaters and a filter/separator. Project included all interconnecting pipe between skids, pipeline inlets, and discharge pipe from station.

Crews encountered old fragile utility lines and community opposition. Crew also encountered large amounts of groundwater and had to work with the tides. Most of the pipeline route ran through neighborhoods who were opposed to the pipeline, requiring additional sensitivity.
