Work Scope

This project consisted of 36,058 LF, (6.8 miles), of 10” steel pipe installed adjacent to Norfolk Southern Railroad ROW. Installation started in downtown Salisbury, Maryland and eventually merged to run between US 13 northbound and the Norfolk Southern railroad for 2.5 miles. Additionally, the project included the fabrication and installation of a meter and regulation facility that controls delivery to our customer’s southern distribution markets. There were 30 horizontal directional drills and three conventional jack and bores designed to minimize impact to local community. SEC’s project scope called for a depth of cover to be a minimum of six feet within the railroad ROW, which posed a challenge due to the sandy soil conditions. As always, SEC crews made safety, quality, and environmental impact top priorities. Southeast Connections ensured a strong focus on communication and transparency with both the client and the community during the preparation and execution phases. This was particularly effective as we performed an extremely high-profile 1100’ horizontal directional drill under the south prong of the Wicomico River, which was completed on time and without incident. This bore gained the attention of numerous federal, and state environmental regulatory officials and SEC was commended on their incident free execution and attention to detail. This project required extensive coordination and communication efforts with Maryland’s State Highway Administration, Norfolk Southern Railroad’s safety department, local municipalities, and public service departments to ensure timely installation.
